February Book Haul

I got a late Christmas Present from a family member in the form of a Barnes and Noble gift card a few weeks ago so I purchased more books. Best gift ever!

As every other book nerd out there knows and understands, I had this eternal dilemma about how to best spend it. Order online and save some money or go to my local Barnes and Noble and have the books in my hands the same day.

As much as I preferred the latter option, saving money won over in the end. Plus with the money I saved, I was able to buy an extra book! Win win. And let’s not forget-free shipping for Barnes and Noble members.

Anyway, I think I came out pretty well, so here is February’s book haul. Though that is kind of premature, since there is still a week left in the month that I can buy more books, but I’m going to try holding off until March even if it will be a struggle.

Insurgent (Divergent #2) by Veronica Roth

First, let me express how much I love this cover. It’s one of the most beautiful covers I’ve ever seen. And I don’t usually even like movie covers. Four and Tris on the cover in complete action; I call that perfect. I have the complete series on hardback, but when I saw this movie tie-in addition at Walmart, I new I had to have it too. There is bonus material in the back and I need as much Insurgent as I can get.

Genre: Young Adult Fiction

Book Description (goodreads.com): The only thing bigger than the world is fear.

Lucy’s life by the pond has always been full. She has water and friends, laughter and the love of her adoptive mother, Lynn, who has made sure that Lucy’s childhood was very different from her own. Yet it seems Lucy’s future is settled already—a house, a man, children, and a water source—and anything beyond their life by the pond is beyond reach.

When disease burns through their community, the once life-saving water of the pond might be the source of what’s killing them now. Rumors of desalinization plants in California have lingered in Lynn’s mind, and the prospect of a “normal” life for Lucy sets the two of them on an epic journey west to face new dangers: hunger, mountains, deserts, betrayal, and the perils of a world so vast that Lucy fears she could be lost forever, only to disappear in a handful of dust.

Ready Player One by Ernest Cline

Genre: Young Adult Fiction

Book Description (goodreads.com): It’s the year 2044, and the real world is an ugly place.

Like most of humanity, Wade Watts escapes his grim surroundings by spending his waking hours jacked into the OASIS, a sprawling virtual utopia that lets you be anything you want to be, a place where you can live and play and fall in love on any of ten thousand planets.

And like most of humanity, Wade dreams of being the one to discover the ultimate lottery ticket that lies concealed within this virtual world. For somewhere inside this giant networked playground, OASIS creator James Halliday has hidden a series of fiendish puzzles that will yield massive fortune — and remarkable power — to whoever can unlock them.

For years, millions have struggled fruitlessly to attain this prize, knowing only that Halliday’s riddles are based in the pop culture he loved — that of the late twentieth century. And for years, millions have found in this quest another means of escape, retreating into happy, obsessive study of Halliday’s icons. Like many of his contemporaries, Wade is as comfortable debating the finer points of John Hughes’s oeuvre, playing Pac-Man, or reciting Devo lyrics as he is scrounging power to run his OASIS rig.

And then Wade stumbles upon the first puzzle.

Suddenly the whole world is watching, and thousands of competitors join the hunt — among them certain powerful players who are willing to commit very real murder to beat Wade to this prize. Now the only way for Wade to survive and preserve everything he knows is to win. But to do so, he may have to leave behind his oh-so-perfect virtual existence and face up to life — and love — in the real world he’s always been so desperate to escape.

A world at stake.
A quest for the ultimate prize.
Are you ready?
